Zebra Pattern (A/V)
In audio/visual production, a pattern of zebra-like stripes that are superimposed over a camera viewfinder image area that are at or near 101 IRE units, as an aid to exposure (depending on the specific design and manufacturer of the camera).

Zener Diode (computer/microelectronics)
P-N junction two-terminal, single junction semiconductor device reverse biased into the breakdown region and providing high impedances under less than breakdown voltage, but conduction with no impedance above breakdown voltage level. The device is used principally in voltage regulator circuits to provide a voltage reference.

Zero: "0" (computer)
False statement, off connotation, negative connotation, opposite of "1", logic statement.

Zero Wait State (computer)
Microprocessor memory condition and feature of high-speed memory access and transfer, whereby there are no delays (wait-states) in transferring information within the system.

Z-Modem (communications, computer)
Asynchronous communications protocol that offers extended error protection over X-Modems, and that can handle large file transfers even with some transmission delays.

Z-Motion (computer, microelectronics)
In microelectronics fabrication, the vertical adjustment of screen-substrate distance: used for setting snap-off and levelling in screen printing.

Zone Box (communications)
Conduit Zone Box providing a secure housing for modular connections and disconnections for all communications cabling, and provides dynamic access, growth, flexibility, safety and security of all connections, as part of the Universal Communications System © ®.

Zoned Conduit System (communications)
Conduit system that provides dynamic access, growth, flexibility, safety and security for communications cabling as part of the Universal Communications System © ®.

Zone Sub-Assembly (communications)
Conduit Zone Box sub-assembly for all modular connections and disconnections for all communications cabling (fiber, coax, twisted pairs) and provides dynamic access, growth, flexibility, safety, and security, as part of the Universal Communications System© ®.

Zoom (A/V, computer)
To magnify an image on a video display. Also, in camera work, it describes the action of moving in from a long-shot view to a closeup view.
