X

X-Axis (computer)
Horizontal or left-to-right direction in a two-dimensional system of coordinates.

XCOPY (computer/DOS)
DOS Command that copies files (except for hidden and system files) as well as subdirectories and the files in those subdirectories. This command includes switches that select which files are copied on the basis of archive attribute, data, or user response.

Xmodem (communications)
Asynchronous communications protocol for personal computers that can detect most transmission errors, but not guaranteed to detect all.

Xmodem-CRC (communications)
More advanced modem that uses Cyclic Redundancy Check to detect transmission errors.

X-Motion (computer, microelectronics)
In microelectronics fabrication, registration adjustment left and right of the screen pattern to the substrate, in screen printing.

XMT (communications)
In communications, an anagram or abbreviation (signal) for "tranmit".

X- Series (communications, computer)
CCITT standards for information exchange: from X.3 for packet assembler/disassembler -to X.500 standard for mail/messaging protocol including the maintenance of directories.

CCITT X.3: Protocol for Packet Assembly/Disassembly Facility in a public data network.

CCITT X.21: Network access standard for connecting stations to a circuit-switched network that includes the OSI layers 1 through 3 functionality.

CCITT X.25: Standard for data packets sent to public switched networks. This standard corresponds to the ISO/OSI model first three layers.

CCITT X.28: Protocol for DTE/DCE interface for a start-stop DTE accessing the Packet Assembly/Disassembly Facility (PAD) on a public data network in the same country.

CCITT X.75: Protocol for the terminal and transmit control procedures and data transfer system on international circuits between packet-switched networks.

CCITT X.400: Set of protocols governing electronic mail.

CCITT X.500: Set of protocols governing worldwide directories for electronic mail.

X-X (computer)
Signifies one direction followed in a step-and-repeat method.

X-Y-Z Matrix (computer)
3-D structure. The x and y axes represent the first two dimensions; the z axis, the third dimension. In a graphic image, the x and y denote width and height; the z denotes depth.
